NuSmile ReVIVE FAQs
Material & Product Information
NuSmile ReVIVE crowns are made from a high-performance, ceramic-reinforced composite. This unique composition provides excellent wear resistance and durability with natural esthetics.
Yes. ReVIVE crowns meet ISO 10993 biocompatibility requirements and have been shown to be non-cytotoxic, non-sensitizing, and non-irritating. Testing confirms no adverse biological response, and the material’s smooth, highly polished surface supports gingival health. Additionally, as part of our quality process, every production batch is chemically analyzed to verify complete polymerization ensuring optimal performance and biocompatibility. Our process and controls ensure that ReVIVE crowns will perform as expected under the most demanding conditions.
Yes. The material is radiopaque to support diagnostic evaluation, with a radiopacity of approximately 1 mm aluminum equivalent.
Indications & Coding
Full coverage restoration of damaged or decayed teeth.
D2932.
Preparation & Placement
No. The technique is different. ReVIVE crowns are not crimpable, so they cannot be bent or shaped like stainless steel crowns. Instead, they rely on a passive, anatomic fit and cementation rather than mechanical retention. Tooth reduction is slightly greater than for an SSC particularly interproximally and incisal/occlusally to accommodate the crown’s thickness to ensure proper seating.
No. ReVIVE crowns are pre-contoured and not crimpable. Retention is achieved through proper tooth preparation and cementation, not mechanical crimping. You may, however, adjust the margins with a fine diamond bur and repolish as needed.
No. Use gentle finger pressure only. If the crown does not seat passively, additional tooth reduction is required.
No. ReVIVE crowns are not indicated for use with the Hall Technique. Proper tooth preparation is required to ensure optimal fit, retention, and clinical performance.
Cementation
ReVIVE crowns may be cemented using a standard GI (Fuji I®1 or Ketac™1), RMGI luting cement or bonded with composite.
1 Fuji I® and Ketac™ are not registered trademarks of NuSmile.
Adjustment & Finishing
Yes. Adjust with fine grit diamond burs under water spray, then restore gloss using composite polishers.
Yes. ReVIVE crowns are universal and can be easily adjusted at the incisal edge or point angles to refine esthetics and shape. Use a fine diamond bur or any composite finishing bur, following standard clinical technique.
Yes. Margins may be shortened with a fine diamond bur and should always be polished afterward.
Gingival Response & Clinical Behavior
ReVIVE crowns have excellent gingival response due to their smooth polished composite surface and anatomical contour. The material is highly biocompatible, non-irritating, non-sensitizing, and free from detectable allergen-releasing components which supports healthy soft-tissue adaptation. With proper marginal fit and good oral hygiene, the gingiva typically remains stable and healthy long-term.
Yes. The composite’s resilience is gentle on opposing enamel, even in active occlusion.
Comparison
ReVIVE crowns provide far more consistent esthetics and durability than strip crowns, which can be technique-sensitive and prone to staining, breakdown or early failure.
ReVIVE crowns generally require less aggressive tooth reduction, the material is more forgiving during placement and is repairable and gentle on opposing teeth while providing a durable restoration and long term esthetics. In addition, ReVIVE crowns are slightly more translucent for natural esthetics.
No. ReVIVE is not made from the same material as BioFlx. ReVIVE is a resin-ceramic reinforced composite, whereas BioFlx is a hybrid resin polymer without ceramic reinforcement. The materials have different compositions and clinical handling characteristics.
No. ReVIVE is not made from the same material as zirconia. ReVIVE is a resin-ceramic reinforced composite, while zirconia crowns are made from solid zirconium dioxide, a fully ceramic material. The materials have different compositions and clinical handling characteristics.
Both ReVIVE and zirconia crowns require a passive fit preparation. However, ReVIVE requires less aggressive circumferential reduction compared to zirconia, allowing for a more conservative tooth preparation while still achieving proper fit and retention.
Removal & Maintenance
Use a fine diamond bur with water spray to create a vertical cut along the facial or lingual surface, extend it over the incisal/occlusal, and gently wedge open the slice with an excavator or scaler while protecting soft tissue and airway with gauze.
Sterilization
ReVIVE crowns are provided in clean non sterile packaging. Clinicians may sterilize according to CDC guidelines.

Yes. ReVIVE crowns may be temporarily seated intraorally to assess fit and esthetics prior to final cementation. ReVIVE does not offer separate “try-in” crowns, so the actual crown intended for placement may be used for this purpose. If a crown is seated but not cemented, it should be thoroughly cleaned and sterilized according to standard infection control protocols before reuse.
Training & Support
