About NuSmile Academy
NuSmile Academy provides continuing dental education focused on pediatric restorative dentistry. Courses are led by experienced pediatric dental instructors and incorporate lecture, clinical case discussion, demonstration, and guided hands-on participation.
Workshop content examines clinical topics including treatment planning, restorative material selection, crown preparation and placement, pulp therapy, space maintenance, and troubleshooting. Small-group instruction gives participants opportunities to ask questions, discuss clinical considerations, and practice techniques introduced during the program under instructor supervision.
Each component of the program is structured around defined learning objectives designed to support clinical decision-making, material selection, procedural technique, and predictable restorative outcomes.

Course Objectives
Upon successful completion of this continuing education program, participants should be able to:
Evaluate pediatric restorative cases using clinical findings, treatment-planning considerations, and patient-specific needs.
Compare restorative crown options and identify appropriate indications, preparation principles, and cementation considerations for each.
Select appropriate pulp-therapy materials and techniques based on the clinical presentation and treatment objective.
Demonstrate preparation and placement techniques for pediatric restorative crowns during supervised hands-on participation.
Apply clinical decision-making principles to space maintainer planning, selection, and placement.
Identify common restorative complications and formulate appropriate troubleshooting strategies.
Intended Audience
This continuing education program is designed for pediatric dentists, general dentists who provide care for pediatric patients, pediatric dental residents, dental faculty, and other licensed oral healthcare professionals seeking to expand their knowledge of contemporary pediatric restorative dentistry.
Suggested Prior Knowledge
Participants should possess foundational knowledge of dental anatomy, restorative dentistry, tooth preparation, pulp therapy, and routine clinical procedures. Previous experience providing restorative care to pediatric patients is suggested but not required.

The Gulf Shores workshop combines instructor-led lecture, clinical demonstration, and supervised hands-on participation in contemporary pediatric restorative dentistry.
Instructor-Led Lecture
4 CE HoursParticipate in case-based instruction, clinical discussion, demonstrations, and instructor-guided review of contemporary pediatric restorative concepts.
Hands-On Participation
4 CE HoursApply course techniques through supervised exercises, direct instructor guidance, and individualized procedural feedback.
Workshop Format
This in-person educational program combines instructor-led lecture, clinical demonstration, and supervised hands-on participation.
Participants should plan to attend the complete workshop schedule to receive full continuing education credit.
Requirements for CE Credit

LaRee Johnson, DDS, MS, FAAPD
Lead NuSmile Academy Instructor
Dr. LaRee Johnson earned her DDS from the University of Tennessee and completed a three-year pediatric dental residency and master's degree at the University of North Carolina. She is the founder of Carolina Pediatric Dentistry and has led multiple practice expansions focused on delivering efficient, high-quality pediatric care.
A past president of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, faculty member at East Carolina University, and Chief Dental Officer with Blue Cloud Pediatric Surgical Centers, Dr. Johnson brings extensive experience in advancing systems-based, outcome-driven pediatric dentistry. At NuSmile Academy, she shares practical protocols and leadership insight designed to strengthen clinical efficiency and restorative excellence.

David Harney, DDS, MS
NuSmile Academy Instructor
Dr. David Harney is a board-certified pediatric dentist and Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. A Texas native, he earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees in neuroscience before graduating with honors from Texas A&M University College of Dentistry.
He completed his pediatric dental residency at Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C., where he developed advanced clinical experience treating children and patients with special healthcare needs. At NuSmile Academy, Dr. Harney brings a thoughtful, systems-based approach to pediatric restorative techniques, patient-centered treatment planning, and confidence-building clinical care.

Registration & Refund Policies
- Registration Cancellation & Refund Policy:
Participants may register up to the date of the course, provided space is available.
Course Cancellation or Rescheduling by NuSmile Academy: NuSmile Academy reserves the right to cancel or reschedule a course 30 days or more before the scheduled course date. Registration fees for cancelled courses will be fully refunded. If a course is rescheduled, participants may request a full refund within 30 days of the rescheduling notice. Personal expenses incurred due to course cancellation or rescheduling, including travel and lodging, are the responsibility of the participant and will not be reimbursed.
Participant Cancellation: Participants may cancel their registration 30 days or more before the course start date for a full refund. Cancellations made 10–29 days before the course start date are eligible for a refund less a 25% administrative fee, or participants may elect to receive a course credit valid for one year from the original course date. Cancellations made fewer than 10 days before the course start date are not eligible for a refund or course credit.
